This Really ucks Me Up Every Time

I sure am glad I overcame my fear and came fully out of the closet about all of what’s really happening in my life. The thing holding me back from it the most has been my fear that the lawyers I serve will read about my bankruptcy, freak out and stop trusting me to deliver great things for them.

Ah, fears. How they hold us back from making the impact in the world we could be making if we just showed up fully as we are! To remind me of that, today, I got this note from one of my lawyer members:

“I cannot begin to tell you how very much I appreciated that post! It’s so easy to feel like a failure but your post helped me put things into perspective [list of all sorts of shitty things happening in her life right now that have kept her from focusing on business]. So, the big picture is that although business is not booming now, it is perfect for me at this point in my life. I have had the time to help my daughter and “just be” with her.I have been able to spend time with my father as he recovers from his surgeries. I have been able to help my parents with their business – we have built a website and have launched an email newsletter (I only know how to do this because I figured out how to set up an email list for my business through mailchimp). They are going through some legal issues with the businesses and I am so glad I have the time to help them. I have had to give up some things in the process, but all in all I am so thankful that I have the work I do and the time to spend on the relationships that really matter.”

Well, there ya go. What could you share more publicly that might help others if you stop hiding it and let the real you out?

Before you answer that, I want to share something I’ve recently uncovered about myself that has got to shift. It’s a pattern that repeatedly fucks me up and, up until now, I have not been able to see it clearly enough to change it.

But I can now, and I’m calling it out of hiding, shining the light on it and I am committed to transforming it. You can help.

Ok, here it is.

I have a deeply rooted belief that I must remain focused and vigilant about everything I do not want to happen because if I do not, I will be blindsided/disappointed when I do not get what I want. As a result of this belief, I am incessantly focused on what I do not want.

I can now see how this pattern has repeatedly fucked me and everyone else around me. Again and again and again. You know your thoughts create your reality, right? Of course you do. (If you don’t, pick up this book and give it a read. It’s a quickie.)

I know it too. And, yet, knowing that has not been enough to overcome the deep-seated belief that I must stay aware of everything that might go wrong.

So, I constantly point out what’s going wrong instead of recognizing, appreciating, validating and celebrating what’s right. (By the way, I think this is a characteristic very common to many lawyers due to our training/indoctrination and one I will work to shift in the lawyers I train as soon as I get a handle on it me.)

Or, I get angry and resentful about not having what I want (and stay focused on why I can’t have it) instead of clearly and directly asking for what I want.

This pattern has got to go. It’s not serving me. And it’s certainly not fun for the people close to me.

So, I’m going to become a scientist, a researcher of sorts, dedicated to doing what it takes to eradicate this pattern in my life. It starts here by sharing it with you. Because while you’ve probably heard that awareness is the first step, I’m going to venture to say bringing it out of the closet and sharing it is the second step. Otherwise, it can too easily slip back into a blind spot.

Now, here’s what I’m planning to do:

  • NLP with LiYana Silver on Nov. 5. She says I might be able to shift it in just one session. That would be exciting.
  • EFT — tap tap tap it away. I’ll need to find someone to support me with that.
  • Access Consciousness — when I get back to Boulder I’m going to do my bars (I don’t really know what that means, but I’ve been hearing good things about it and I understand it involves touching my head, which I really like). I’ve been wanting to do it for a while and now I have damn good reason.
  • Energy Work — I recently had a session with Anna Lisa of Luminous, but she’s back in Santa Cruz and I didn’t know about this pattern at the time so we didn’t work on it. I’ll see if Krista Barbour can help when I get back to Boulder.
  • Parts Work/Voice Dialogue — the pattern started to become really clear to me in a session with Stacy Goldring this past week and I’ve done some really great parts work with her in the past, so I’ll go back to her for that again.

Stacy says the first thing I need to do is get really clear about how this pattern has served me in the past. I’ve got a whole big story about that from my law school days and how it somehow supported me to graduate first in my class, but I’ll have to share that with you another day because it’s too late tonight.

Then, she says I need to get really grateful to the pattern because things are most easily transformed from a place of love and appreciation. So, I’ll need to work on that because I’m not particularly thrilled with this pattern right now.

Do you want to help eradicate this pattern and maybe call it out in yourself and be done with it too? If so, here’s what I would love you to do. Post in the comments about how this pattern shows up in your life. Also, maybe share with me how this pattern has helped you so I can love it in you and then maybe love it in me through you. Send any other words of wisdom or support you might have for me.

Have I mentioned I’m really glad to be back? I am. Really. Glad.

Cool Mind Experiment

I’m reading The Magic of Believing by Claude M. Bristol.

It is all about the power of your thoughts — which you KNOW I agree are where our true power is.

Here the paper is balanced on the needle.

I came across a “power of mind” experiment or “mind game” that sounded so cool and easy that I HAD TO try it out.

You balance a piece of paper on a needle and “direct” it to spin in the direction you choose.  Then, switch.

The results were spectacular when I did it.

Here’s how:

  1. Make a 3 x 3 inch square of light-weight paper.
  2. Fold it corner to corner.  Unfold.  Then, fold it opposite corner to corner.  Unfold again.  Now the paper makes a little, flat pyramid shape.
  3. Get a fine needle and figure out a way to secure it upright.  (I put my in the top of a sunscreen bottle.)
  4. Balance the folded paper on the needle with the needle in the top of the pyramid.
  5. Place your hands above the pyramid in such a way that your hands are close to the paper but leaving just enough room for it to spin freely.
  6. Start with the pyramid still.
  7. Imagine (or direct) it to spin clockwise.  Keep your focus on that idea until it does.
  8. Imagine (or direct) it to spin counterclockwise.

This is the view from underneath so that you can see how the paper is balanced on the needle.

Let me know how it goes for you.

At first, I had to stop it myself between directions.  Then, with practice, I could have it stop and go the other way.

Be careful not to have the paper in a draft or to move your hands while you are doing this.

NOW:  imagine if you can do THIS with your thoughts… what else is possible?  :)

Love and Success,

Different Strategies for Different Times

The stories that are being shared during this season of presidential politics brought back to my mind a story my grandfather told many times.

It was during the Great Depression.

My grandfather was in college, studying engineering.

He had to leave school for a while to get a job to help support his family, but getting a job was not certain during that time.

He was determined to find a “good job,” but there were not many jobs – good or otherwise – to be found.

One morning, he saw an advertisement for a job at Fisher Body baling scrap metal.  He decided to go for it.

As he was getting ready to go, his mother gave him advice:  “tell them you are a college boy.”

Before the Depression, that would have meant something to prospective employers, but these were different times, and his father had a different perspective.

He pulled my grandfather aside and said:  “look as big and strong and stupid as you can.”  My grandfather decided to take his advice.  So, he layered lots of sweaters under his coat to look as big and strong as he could, and off he went.

When he arrived, he found a line of eager applicants wrapping around the block.

At this point when he would tell the story, my grandfather would stand up and point to the molding around the floor, and he would demonstrate how he stood with his heels resting on the top of the molding, with his arms out to his side the way a muscle-bound man stands, and he’d pull a hat a little down over his face and put a toothpick in his mouth to demonstrate how he stood to stand out from the crowd.

He looked as big and strong and stupid as was possible for him.

So many people would apply for ONE job at that time, that you really had to stand out from the crowd, you couldn’t  rely  the usual  job-finding strategies.

When the plant manager came out, he scanned down the LONG line of people and didn’t speak to a soul but pointed at a few, and said, “You and you and you – come with me.” And, that was it.

My grandfather got that much-needed job that way.  He would tell of the grueling physical labor and how he used his engineering and physics mind to leverage his strength to get the job done.

Baling scrap metal.  Pretty tough work.

The point of sharing this story is that times change, and the effective way to get a job or attract a client changes as well.

What worked a couple years ago so well for so many does not necessarily work now.

To be successful, you have to adapt to find the best way to be what people really want and need.

Though my grandfather’s college smarts helped him to be a great employee, what the employer wanted was a strapping strong man.

What does that mean today?

It means, the world is changing and evolving at an EXTREMELY rapid pace these days.

What worked a couple years ago CANNOT work today.

It is effectively a different world now.

What have you done lately to continue to evolve and adapt?

Are you following old “roadmaps to success” but are not finding the success you desire?

Law of Attraction Tip:

Follow the lead of my grandfather and have faith and confidence that YOU will get what you want, even when the odds may “seem” to be stacked against you.  See yourself getting what you want, and follow inspired action to get there.  (My grandfather didn’t sit at home dreaming about getting a job and tweaking his resume.  He got out there where the job was and took action on the inspired suggestion of his father to land the job that got his family through the Depression and gave him great insight into the mind and concerns of the on-the-floor labor force which served him very well in his later career as a railroad executive and labor contract negotiator – but that’s a story for another time..)

Do You Want It Enough??

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about “wanting it enough.”

I’ve set some big goals for myself, and part of getting there is to be sure I want it enough.

Recently, I came across a small example of how “wanting it enough” makes all the difference.

I was working on the beach and took a break to take a dip in the water.

It was nice and warm under my beach umbrella, and the cool water was a shock.  I almost didn’t go past my ankles and almost turned around and came back out.  Then I realized what a perfect example of “wanting it enough” this was.  If I did want it, I could just go for it.

The part of me already in the water felt good, but that line between being in the water and still being all warm from sitting in the sun was tricky.

When I focused on my feet and legs and ankles that were already in the water rather than the “line of shock,” it became easier.

I thought about my little reason to go into the water:  to be refreshed, to have the experience of going in the water today.

If my son were in trouble in the water, I would not have noticed the water temperature as I plunged in (that would definitely have been  “wanting it enough”), that reason TO go in the water would have outweighed just about any reason I can fathom.

If I knew that plunging in icy water would get me a dime, I probably would pass:  not compelling enough.

If there were a pile of gold coins or a treasured heirloom down there, I probably would not let the water temperature stop me.  (I might THINK about it, but I wouldn’t let it stop me.)

Different goals, desires, etc. motivate us differently.

If you are having trouble meeting a goal, think about your “WHY” – why you are going after the goal and it is truly compelling enough to get you past the discomfort of change (that “line of shock”).

Think about goals you’ve had that you haven’t met and compare them with the goals you HAVE met.  Think about what motivated you in each.

P.S.  The day I wrote about was a calm-sea day.  The next day I was at the beach and the waves were big and beautiful and enticing.  I went in just a bit and then WHOOSH, a big wave came.  I had no choice but get wet THEN.  I could dive through, try to ride it, or get tumbled, but “taking it slowly” was NOT an option – nor was staying dry.  AND, I didn’t even notice the temperature, I was so thrilled by the moment.

I realized how this really furthers the metaphor of wanting it enough – because when you take baby steps toward your goal, you feel each little bit of change, but when you plunge into the big waves sometimes you are swimming before you notice.

Law of Attraction Tip:

Focus on what you want and how to get it, make it juicy and exciting and enticing and when possible “take the plunge” and just go for it in a way that does not allow you to think and turn back.

Love and Success,

A Gift of Money

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a special gift.

I can see money in places other people don’t.

Wouldn’t you like to have that gift?  You CAN learn how!

Would you like to find more money in your life???

I have done corporate, foundation, and individual fundraising.

When I was at the National Gallery of Art doing corporate fundraising, for instance, I thought to look in the artworks themselves for sponsors.

We had a photography show coming up, and I noticed that there were some gorgeous photos of Cadillacs and Harley Davidsons.   Then, I also noticed that many of the photographs were distinctively Polaroid.

Upon further investigation, it turned out that this particular artist had used a LOT of cutting-edge Polaroid technology and had even worked closely with the Polaroid product development team.

When we approached Polaroid to sponsor the show, their response was “what took you so long?”  Polaroid did sponsor the show.

Looking in the artworks for sponsorship ideas is now commonplace, but at the time, it was truly innovative.

I also help my clients “see” where their money is, and I would like to share a bit more about this gift with you on a special call.

I can help you see where your money is.  It is here NOW, you just need to learn how to “see” it.

Money should be as plentiful and natural in your life as leaves growing on trees.

Money should flow as freely as rain in a summer storm.

Is that YOUR experience??

Join me on this free call to find out how…

Name
Email
Phone
If you have a special issue, concern, or question, please enter it here, and we will try to include the information in the call. Thanks.

Law of Attraction Tip:

If you would like to attract more money, join me on this call, and I’ll be sharing lots of money-attracting LOA tips.

Love and Success,

Katherine.

Who Do YOU Have to Be to Attract the Life You Want?

Lately, I have been asking myself “What do Billionaires do differently?” and “How would my life be different if I were a Billionaire – where would I live, what would I wear, eat, etc.?”

It has been fascinating.

Recently, I was talking to my mentor and told him of a direction I’d like to head in my life, and he asked, “Who would you have to BE to experience that?”

I’ve heard that question many times before, and still I took it to a deeper place this time, and I immediately came up with a very specific, clear answer to his question (which I’ll share with you soon) that I took back to my earlier questions and modified them.

What would SHE do differently?  How would she live HER life?  Since then, I’ve informed EVERY decision I’ve made by what SHE would do as I have begun to embody that energy more and more.

It has been fascinating to see the subtle differences between what a Billionaire would do and what SHE would do.

Who would YOU have to be to experience what you want to experience in your life (wild business success, health, love, it does not matter)?

Use that to examine your life and your choices, start living it NOW!

LOA Tip:  Start living the life you want to live NOW – even if you can only start in your imagination.  You can have it NOW.

Buying My First House, a Story of the Support of the Universe

My front door -- with morning glories on the front railing.

After I graduated from Georgetown University, I stayed on in that beautiful part of Washington in a nice one-bedroom apartment.  Eventually, I decided I wanted to buy a house, and I found just the one I wanted.  It was perfect for me, a little two-bedroom with a walled garden, but it was a stretch for me financially at the time.

The first thing that happened was that my real estate agent was too busy to come with me to look at the house and basically took himself out of the process.  It was for sale by owner; so, the owner and I negotiated directly.

I don’t remember the mortgage process because it was so quick and easy.  I got approval for the amount I needed.

But THEN, the lender got back to us saying that we had to put a new roof on the house because we had no documentation saying how old it was.  The owner and I were very nervous because we had no idea how much that would cost.  It could kill the deal.

I agreed to get a couple roofers to come by to give estimates.  So, I went to the yellow pages.  There were PAGES of roofers, PAGES of them.  I chose one “large ad” roofer and one who had just his name and phone number.  I set up the appointment with the “large ad” guys and then called the other one (a random pick).  He agreed to come, we set a time, and when I gave him the address, he said, “wait a minute, I put the roof on that house just a couple years ago… you just need a guarantee for the bank that the roof is going to last.  I am happy to send a letter telling them the date that I put the roof on and that I guarantee my work – no charge.”

Wow.  What are the odds?  Out of ALL the roofers, I called him, he remembered, AND he made such a generous and purchase-enabling offer!

My little walled garden right after I bought the house -- before I planted all my flowers.

Then, I went to my landlord.  He had been doing some construction on the apartment building that had caused problems for me.  I had been withholding rent and had talked to an attorney about suing him.  Turns out I had a really good case, and the attorney was VERY eager to take the case.  I, however, don’t like to get my energy tied up in that kind of thing; so, I decided not to sue.  I just wanted a lovely living condition.

What I did was this:  I approached my landlord and told him I was planning to move.  I asked him to waive those months of rent that I had not paid, and I used all the legal terms I could remember from my conversations with the attorney.  My landlord was an attorney, too.  His face went pale because he understood that I knew I could sue him.  He said he’d think about it and get back to me the next day.

His counter-proposal was even BETTER than what I had asked for.  He offered to waive the back rent AND to pay my moving expenses (which were about $5K).  Deal!

There were a few things that needed fixing on my little house, about $5K worth.  I had been hearing about a first-time home buyers tax rebate of that amount but it had not been enacted by the time we closed.

BUT THEN, the president signed it into law RETROACTIVE to the DAY I purchased my home; so, I got the money and was able to do the work.  J

AND, all of this happened in a wildly short amount of time.  I think from the time I first saw the house until the day I moved in was 13 days.

There were other pieces to this puzzle that the Universe lined up.  So many moving parts, and they all came together perfectly.

Law of Attraction Tip:

Keep your eyes on the prize and trust that the Universe will support you.  The Universe is standing by, ready to support you in ways that you cannot even imagine – roofers, landlords, and even U.S. Presidents can line up to assist the Universe in assisting YOU.

With love,

Katherine

What is real?

What is real?

I’ve come to really believe we each create our own reality.

You get to define for yourself what is real.

So, is this “bad economy” real?

It is only real if you decide it is real.

I was lucky enough to get an understanding of this early on from my grandparents.

I remember learning about The Great Depression in school.  We were encouraged to ask family members who had lived through it about it.

So, I approached one set of grandparents and got the usual story… “oh yeah, we lost everything… had to sell diamonds to buy bread… had to quit college to get a job… managed to get a scarce job bailing scrap metal at a car factory…”  That fit with what we had studied in school.

Then, I approached my other grandmother and asked her.  Her response shocked me.  “Wasn’t that when good, cheap help was easy to find?”  THAT was her biggest memory of that era.  WOW!

I dug further.  Turns out, her family actually MADE a lot of money during the depression buying up bargain properties.

It was the same moment but different realities.

I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to unravel how something could be experienced SOOO differently by two people at the same time.

Here’s what I’ve come to believe:

It all boils down to YOU.

You get to decide.

It is all about how you look at things.

Do you see an opportunity?

Do you see trouble?

What you see is what you get!

So, what do you see when you look around you?

Law of Attraction tip:  Look at the world as a place ripe with opportunities, and you will see them – EVERYWHERE!

What are you willing to believe??

What are you willing to believe??

You believe what you believe, right?

Nope.  Belief is a choice, a habit of thought.

So, what do you choose to think?

Thoughts create your reality.

What are you willing to think again and again until it becomes so real to you that it is a belief?

Beliefs are powerful.  Once set, you will start to see “evidence” supporting your beliefs everywhere.

Beliefs are like thoughts on steroids, turbo-charged, exponentially more powerful.

What do you want to believe?

So, do you want to believe in lack??

Or, do you want to believe in abundance?

Your choice.

If you want to know what you believe, look at your life, your life reflects back to you your beliefs — 100%.  Your life gives you a snapshot of the beliefs you are carrying around right now.

Like what you see?  GREAT!

Would you rather live your life differently?  Then, you need to shift your beliefs.

What are you willing to believe?

Law of Attraction Tip:  Be deliberate about what you think.  Monitor your thoughts and ask yourself, “Is this the world I want to live in?”  ”Is this what I want to create?”  Your thoughts are powerful.

Thoughts Create!♥

I Will Always Love You: Whitney, Relationships, and the LOA

Whitney Houston’s death has me reflecting a bit on where and how we can depart from our paths.

And, there are certainly many lessons we can learn.

One idea I keep coming back to is what our Expert Faculty member, David Neagle, talks about (and warns against) so often:  Toxic Relationships.

In a life of full responsibility for our own outcomes, a Toxic Relationship is not someone who “brings you down” but rather someone who reflects back the “worst” in you, someone who is a mirror and brings focus and attention to the parts of yourself that are NOT where you want to head — AND (and this AND is important) with whom you create an agreement that it is OK to stay in those places and continue to focus on those things.

So, if Whitney and Bobby had recognized that being together brought out unhealthy, un-growth-supporting thoughts and behaviors and had BOTH decided to really dig and and release the vibrations within themselves that they were mirroring, then we may well have had an entirely different Whitney in recent years.

BUT, if EITHER party in a relationship thinks it is OK to stay in that non-growth-supporting place, THEN the relationship becomes toxic.  Because Growth is how the Universe is designed, and when we choose not to grow, we are poisoning our lives.

My motto in this kind of situation is to “Learn Your Way Out” of a relationship.

I recently let go of a magnificent, wonderful, loving man, someone I truly love.  I let go because I realized that he was OK with remaining focused on fear and lack, and I noticed that when I was with him, I would focus on those things, too, and that just isn’t OK for me and the kind of growth I see for myself.

It was easier to let go of the man as I shed my own Need to Be Afraid, I just didn’t feel like as much of a “match” to him.  We kind of shifted apart from each other energetically.

And, practically the moment I made the DECISION to really let this man go, the most amazing, forward-moving successes (and other wonderful men) began to “appear” in my life.

Whitney truly stepped fully into her brilliance for a time, and her light shined bright.  Imagine where she could have gone from there if she had insisted on surrounding herself ONLY with people who helped her focus on her light, who made that easy for her, rather than her “darkness.”

One thing I know for sure:  she has experienced a release from her “demons” and has now returned to pure joy and peace. ♥

Law of Attraction Life Tip:

It is worth thinking about and assessing the relationships in your life.  Take responsibility for your choices and agreements.  Ask yourself:  “is this really what I want for ME?” ♥

With love,

Katherine
