“Do what you love. That simple.”
“Do what you love. That simple.” ~ Be True Rich: 3 Simple Keys To Live Your Good Life Now!
Sometimes we forget how easy it truly is to live a good life.
Our brains can handle complicated; so, we create complicated, but the keys, the solutions are usually quite simple, and the biggest, overarching answer is to do what you love.
Sometimes we start to believe that we should be doing a whole bunch of other stuff, and that’s fine, but if you want to get into the ease of The Flow where the Universe supports your every endeavor, then: do what you love.
Lately, I’v
e been adding more and more music to my life. I LOVE music. I am doing what I love.
I am singing and writing songs and performing.
Yes, it takes time and commitment, but it brings me great joy.
AND, I’ve noticed that the more music I incorporate into my life, the easier EVERYTHING becomes.
More people seem to be spontaneously buying things from me over the internet. More potential clients are reaching out to me to ask for help.
Sometimes we get into a trap of thinking we need to accomplish certain things in realms we do not love before we can indulge in the “luxury” of spending our time doing the things we love.
That’s backwards.
You will accomplish much more in all areas of your life when you are doing what you love.
So, just do it.
This concept is a central theme of my book Be True Rich in which I define rich as “the amount of love you have in and for your life.” The more love you have for your life (by doing what you love), the richer you are – in EVERY way!
What are some things you love to do that you’ve not been allowing into your life? What are some steps you can take TODAY to start incorporating them into the fabric of your life?
Law of Attraction Tip: The more time you spend doing what you love, the more you will attract more things you love into your life.
Flower Tip: Have the flowers you love around you.
Simple.
Here’s a little video that PBS put together using snippets of Bob Ross’s shows and modern technology to create a song based on his philosophy. Take this beautiful, uplifting message about painting, and apply it to any/all areas of your life. “This is your world, you are the creator!”

Have Faith in Your Journey — Reflections from My Recent Travels
I just returned home to the Hamptons after spending a week in North Carolina visiting my folks.
My son and I drove and spent a fair amount of time on the road. I treasure these long expanses of uninterrupted time together. We chat and sing and just sit together quietly and think.
As I was driving home, the weather was foggy and drippy. Often the visibility was less than a tenth of a mile. Still, the traffic moved well, and I felt safe and comfortable the whole way.
I couldn’t see the road very far ahead of me.
Perhaps I should have been afraid, but I wasn’t.
Because I have Faith.
I have Faith in the road ahead and the car I drive. I have faith that the road is there, and that it is passable.
I don’t have to see the whole road to move forward. Even on the sunniest, clearest day on the flattest, straightest bit of highway, I cannot see all the way to my destination and yet I embark on my voyage.
This idea of the faith in the support of the road systems popped into my thinking as I was crossing the beautiful Delaware bridge in the fog. I could not see the whole bridge. I could not see across the river. I could not see the top of the bridge. It was shrouded in fog.
Still, all of us travelers (and the highway was full and busy and moving well) moved on at normal speed. No one stopped short or pulled over to the side of the road. Even in the fog, we all continued forward.
I didn’t have my camera ready at the Delaware bridge to snap a photo, but the conditions were pretty similar when we came to the Verrazano bridge (see photos). And, all of us travelers moved easily across that bridge, too.
It is a great metaphor for the journey of life.
Have faith in the support you need as you proceed. Continue forward in the direction of your dreams and desires. Even when you cannot see what the next step is (the bridge) or what is on the other side.
Your bridge is there. Your “other side” is there – but only if you keep moving forward. You will never be able to see all the bits of your journey from your starting point. Each bit will only be revealed as you move forward.
So, set your internal GPS, and keep moving forward.
Law of Attraction tip:
Trust all the roads and bridges of your life to be exactly as you need them to be to get to your desired destinations.
Daffodils reflect this energy. They often poke up through the ground through the cold snow when there is no sign of spring, yet they trust in the warmth that is to come. Spring always comes. Let the daffodils remind you that the warmth and sunlight you seek is coming, too (no matter how things appear at the moment).
Love and Success,
Katherine.

The Flu and You
Your body’s natural state is pure, radiant health. That’s the state your body and its cell are programmed to be. Your body knows what to do to be healthy. You just have to let it do its business.
So, what can interfere? Your thoughts, your feelings, and your beliefs are the biggest, most powerful tools to remain in great health – or, to veer away from it.
In today’s word we have instant access to most everything that is going on around the world if we want it.
The news media is not really in the news business. They are in the profit-making business. They choose stories that people will watch over stories of greatest importance and relevance (to increase their ratings and their ad revenue). And, they know that fear sells – fear of illness, fear of bad weather, fear of war, fear of __________. The stronger, the scarier the fear, the more magnetic the newscast becomes.
So, we hear early about every case of flu. The news media tracks them and the flu’s progress.
Have you seen any of those newscasts? Did you start to feel fear? Did you start to believe in a sort of inevitability of your contracting the flu yourself? Did you start playing back your day and remembering all the sneezing you heard around you, the sniffling at the grocery checkout? Did you start to notice the slightest cough in the people around you? Be honest with yourself.
It does not have to be that way.
First, you really don’t have to watch the news all the time.
I stopped watching the news years and years ago, and my life is so much happier.
If you do watch the news, really start paying attention and asking yourself, “what is this news story’s relevance to me?”
Notice all the healthy people around you. Notice that (even if you do have the flu) your body functions miraculously and largely without any help from you. You blink and breathe. Your heart beats, oxygen is absorbed, food is digested. Water is absorbed… All of these functions occur without your assistance, many of them without even your awareness.
Your job to maintain great health is to celebrate the fantastic functioning of your body. Your job is to focus on health and strength and to trust the function of your body. Your job is to counteract any fear that you notice creeping in with love – LOVE your body and all it does for you. Honor your body by taking care of it.
At night and in the morning, you can set a tone for your overnight or daytime thoughts.
Try this at night: “Tonight as I sleep, I allow my body to reset itself into its natural state of radiant, perfect health.”
Try this in the morning: “I am amazed and delighted by all the complex functions my body manages for me without my awareness or direct participation. Thank you, body! I celebrate you!”
Law of Attraction Tip: You get more of what you focus on – focus on what you WANT in your body.
Flower Tip: People take flowers to sick people for a reason – they uplift, they remind you of the beauty and perfection of life. Be sure to have flowers in your environment and take time to appreciate them and their beauty.
Love and Light,
Katherine
P.S. I go into much more detail in my new book Be True Rich about the power of your last thoughts of the day and your first thoughts in the morning and how to set yourself up well with both. www.BeTrueRich.com

What to do with detractors?
One thing I rediscover every time I launch something new (like my new book) is when you stand up and say something, when you stand for something, you are going to rile some people up and ruffle some feathers.
You will hear from people who disagree and who even resent your message.
So, what do you do with detractors?
First, you need to understand what is going on for your detractor.
Their feathers are ruffled because you are striking a raw nerve. On a deep level they may even agree with your message, but it challenges them and their status quo.
Feathers cannot get ruffled if there is not a ruffle already there.
For instance, if you write a book called “Hey, You! Get Off Your Butt and Get In Shape” you can only offend a person who already feels bad about not being in shape inside. Someone who does not feel that way and feel bad about feeling out of shape wouldn’t be bothered.
The good news about ruffling feathers is that it means that you are really standing for something, and that is excellent. So many people go through their lives being very careful not to upset any apple carts, and they thus don’t do anything of real significance.
So, congratulations on taking a stand. YAY, you!
So, what do you do with those ruffled feathers?
Easy: you love the ruffled feathers and honor them for who they are, where they are.
You don’t need to try to change their mind or “fix” them or convince them. Let them be.
Say, “thank you,” and move on.
Engaging with ruffled feathers will get you and the feathers nowhere fast.
That is not to say to never engage in real discussion about your topic.
Real discussion, even heated discussion is not the same as ruffled feathers.
So, with our get-off-your-butt book example, if someone approaches you and says, “How dare you tell me I need to get off my butt,” then that is an example of ruffled feathers.
You can simply say, “I am sorry you feel offended by my title. Thank you for letting me know.” And, move on.
On the other hand, if someone seems genuinely interested and asks, “I am curious, why did you choose such a confronting title for your book, I am sure it must be offending a lot of people. What is your reasoning?” Then, that is an invitation to possibly have a real discussion about your intention.
Ruffled feathers are just telling you that you are wrong and have done something bad against them.
Interested parties are expressing genuine curiosity and interest.
Sometimes ruffled feathers will disguise their comments in a wording of genuine interest, and I have made the mistake of trying to engage with them a few times, but quickly you realize you are dealing with ruffled feathers.
The moment you realize, just stop engaging.
A person whose feathers have been ruffled may turn into a person who is genuinely interested in your topic, but they need to work through some of their own stuff first. So, just let them do it.
Unless the person says something like, “Wow! Your book title really triggered something inside me, and I can feel anger boiling up inside me, would you please help me find another way to look at what you are offering?” then that is not your job.
Remember the first rule of helping people is that they have to ask for your help.
Someone who is attacking you is too triggered at the moment to have a genuine engagement, that person is playing a pretend game and hiding behind a facade of anger.
If you handle the situation lovingly, the person may remember that when they calm down, and if there is any sort of openness, they may come back for a different kind of engagement.
Maybe
not… just be willing to let it go and let it be. It is OK for people to be angry. That really is none of your business.
Law of Attraction Tip: Remember: what people think of you is none of your business. Your job is to be the best version of yourself that you can be and to focus on what you want (angry people in your face is probably not what you want); so, focus your time and energy on the peace and love that surrounds you.
Flower Tip: When you are in a situation that seems difficult, Lilies of the Valley can help you remember that there is beauty and light and love all times and everywhere.
Love and Light,
Katherine.

This Really ucks Me Up Every Time
I sure am glad I overcame my fear and came fully out of the closet about all of what’s really happening in my life. The thing holding me back from it the most has been my fear that the lawyers I serve will read about my bankruptcy, freak out and stop trusting me to deliver great things for them.
Ah, fears. How they hold us back from making the impact in the world we could be making if we just showed up fully as we are! To remind me of that, today, I got this note from one of my lawyer members:
“I cannot begin to tell you how very much I appreciated that post! It’s so easy to feel like a failure but your post helped me put things into perspective [list of all sorts of shitty things happening in her life right now that have kept her from focusing on business]. So, the big picture is that although business is not booming now, it is perfect for me at this point in my life. I have had the time to help my daughter and “just be” with her.I have been able to spend time with my father as he recovers from his surgeries. I have been able to help my parents with their business – we have built a website and have launched an email newsletter (I only know how to do this because I figured out how to set up an email list for my business through mailchimp). They are going through some legal issues with the businesses and I am so glad I have the time to help them. I have had to give up some things in the process, but all in all I am so thankful that I have the work I do and the time to spend on the relationships that really matter.”
Well, there ya go. What could you share more publicly that might help others if you stop hiding it and let the real you out?
Before you answer that, I want to share something I’ve recently uncovered about myself that has got to shift. It’s a pattern that repeatedly fucks me up and, up until now, I have not been able to see it clearly enough to change it.
But I can now, and I’m calling it out of hiding, shining the light on it and I am committed to transforming it. You can help.
Ok, here it is.
I have a deeply rooted belief that I must remain focused and vigilant about everything I do not want to happen because if I do not, I will be blindsided/disappointed when I do not get what I want. As a result of this belief, I am incessantly focused on what I do not want.
I can now see how this pattern has repeatedly fucked me and everyone else around me. Again and again and again. You know your thoughts create your reality, right? Of course you do. (If you don’t, pick up this book and give it a read. It’s a quickie.)
I know it too. And, yet, knowing that has not been enough to overcome the deep-seated belief that I must stay aware of everything that might go wrong.
So, I constantly point out what’s going wrong instead of recognizing, appreciating, validating and celebrating what’s right. (By the way, I think this is a characteristic very common to many lawyers due to our training/indoctrination and one I will work to shift in the lawyers I train as soon as I get a handle on it me.)
Or, I get angry and resentful about not having what I want (and stay focused on why I can’t have it) instead of clearly and directly asking for what I want.
This pattern has got to go. It’s not serving me. And it’s certainly not fun for the people close to me.
So, I’m going to become a scientist, a researcher of sorts, dedicated to doing what it takes to eradicate this pattern in my life. It starts here by sharing it with you. Because while you’ve probably heard that awareness is the first step, I’m going to venture to say bringing it out of the closet and sharing it is the second step. Otherwise, it can too easily slip back into a blind spot.
Now, here’s what I’m planning to do:
- NLP with LiYana Silver on Nov. 5. She says I might be able to shift it in just one session. That would be exciting.
- EFT — tap tap tap it away. I’ll need to find someone to support me with that.
- Access Consciousness — when I get back to Boulder I’m going to do my bars (I don’t really know what that means, but I’ve been hearing good things about it and I understand it involves touching my head, which I really like). I’ve been wanting to do it for a while and now I have damn good reason.
- Energy Work — I recently had a session with Anna Lisa of Luminous, but she’s back in Santa Cruz and I didn’t know about this pattern at the time so we didn’t work on it. I’ll see if Krista Barbour can help when I get back to Boulder.
- Parts Work/Voice Dialogue — the pattern started to become really clear to me in a session with Stacy Goldring this past week and I’ve done some really great parts work with her in the past, so I’ll go back to her for that again.
Stacy says the first thing I need to do is get really clear about how this pattern has served me in the past. I’ve got a whole big story about that from my law school days and how it somehow supported me to graduate first in my class, but I’ll have to share that with you another day because it’s too late tonight.
Then, she says I need to get really grateful to the pattern because things are most easily transformed from a place of love and appreciation. So, I’ll need to work on that because I’m not particularly thrilled with this pattern right now.
Do you want to help eradicate this pattern and maybe call it out in yourself and be done with it too? If so, here’s what I would love you to do. Post in the comments about how this pattern shows up in your life. Also, maybe share with me how this pattern has helped you so I can love it in you and then maybe love it in me through you. Send any other words of wisdom or support you might have for me.
Have I mentioned I’m really glad to be back? I am. Really. Glad.

The Spiritual Side of True Luxury
In a Superstorm-Sandy-inspired blog last week, I promised to share more with you about my thoughts on True Luxury and what it is – and what it isn’t.
First, take a moment – close your eyes and take a deep cleansing breath and imagine yourself in the MOST luxurious moment you can conjure up.
What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear? What do you taste? What do you smell? What are your emotions? Where are you?
What is luxury tied to in your mind?
Is it part of YOUR everyday experience?
Is it something for “other people”?
These are actually very deeply spiritual questions.
They reveal a lot about how you see the world around you and your place in it.
Let’s start to unravel that notion with a few dictionary definitions of Luxury:
- Something conducive to rich, sumptuous living, usually something beyond a necessity
- The means of having or the indulgence in the comforts beyond or in addition to those necessary for a reasonable standard of living
- Having options, especially out-of-the-ordinary options
- Self-indulgence
- Something pleasant and satisfying
I believe that rich, sumptuous living – beyond the necessities is how we are born to live – and a life of Infinite options.
I believe that a desire fulfilled is not an extravagance; it is not a necessity; it is a fact. It is the way the Universe is set up to react to us – to fulfill our desires (if and when we learn to ALLOW the Universe to do its thing!)
I believe we live in a truly Abundant Universe, infinitely abundant, in fact.
Accepting the Luxury that the Universe WANTS to give you can be a struggle.
Quite often, we are taught things that are counter to accepting that luxury.
We begin to believe that God or the Universe or our parents or society or Spirit WANTS us to live meagerly.
NO WAY!
Just look around you at the sumptuous beauty of nature – of a sunrise, a sunset, a field of flowers, an ocean full of delights, the wild, extravagant variety and diversity on this planet of ours – if that isn’t luxurious then I don’t know what is!
You don’t have to make tons of money to accept the Luxury that is your birthright.
You don’t have to take anything away from anyone else – there’s ample luxury for ALL!
You don’t have to be less spiritual or less godly or less pure or less saintly.
You are meant to experience the wonderful, sensual, delicious luxuries of our physical experience here.
I’d love to know your thoughts on luxury – what it means to you, do you allow it in your experience (why/why not).
How do you feel about the word “luxury” itself – do you have any sort of positive or negative reaction to that word?
Law of Attraction Tip:
Celebrate all the luxuries you have in your life now… there are so many, and you will begin to notice and experience and attract more.
Flower Tip:
Live flowerfully – flowers themselves are the epitome of True Luxury. Have them around you to remind you that it is our Natural State – fresh cut flowers, pictures of flowers, scents of flowers, flowers in your food – as many ways as you can.
Love, Success, and LUXURY to you,
Katherine.

What Medical Tests Reveal — What they DON’T Is Often More Important
I’ve had several occasions lately to think about tests — medical tests — and what they reveal and what they don’t.
First, let me say that this stuff is a life-long fascination for me.
When I entered college, I was Pre-Med.
My intention was to be a doctor, an emergency room surgeon to be precise.
Then, one day I was in a history survey class and the professor covered The History of Science in one hour.
My pen dropped onto my paper in the middle of the class, and i just sat and absorbed.
Afterwards, I approached him and said, “This is IT! I want to read Darwin and Copernicus and Einstein. I want to study the History of Science.”
(I went on to craft a major for me in “Intellectual History” which is the history of ideas.)
Part of what we looked at along the way was tests and experiments as designed by scientists and doctors and what they REALLY test for and how truly narrow the testing is.
So, say you go in for a test for cancer, what you are really testing for is a specific marker that has been related to a higher incidence of cancer, not usually the cancer itself — that’s pretty much a biopsy and even that is inconclusive.
So, as important as tests are to doctors, they do not reveal the whole picture.
Most importantly, medical tests do not reveal things like your free will and what is in your heart.
They do not test for determination and solution-orientation.
They do not test for your ability to stay focused on the outcome you desire and to keep a great outlook and attitude.
In my experience, the things they DO NOT test for are at least as important as the things they do.
Please share any of your experiences related to this topic. Thanks.
Law of Attraction Tip:
If you or someone you love is in the midst of medical tests, keep your mind focused on solutions and the outcome you desire. Remember: your body’s natural state is pure, radiant health. Any time it deviates from that, there is a gift in the deviation. Once you recognize and receive the gift and recognize the blessing and learn the lesson, you can release any “illness” you have.
Flower Tip:
It is not an accident that people take flowers to “sick” people. Surround yourself with uplifting flowerfulness when you are going through any sort of “ordeal,” and allow their energy to uplift you. There are certainly specific flowers for specific situations, but ALL flowers help… and let yourself be guided to the flowers that will help you the most in any particular situation.
Love and Success,
Katherine.

Cool Mind Experiment
I’m reading The Magic of Believing by Claude M. Bristol.
It is all about the power of your thoughts — which you KNOW I agree are where our true power is.
I came across a “power of mind” experiment or “mind game” that sounded so cool and easy that I HAD TO try it out.
You balance a piece of paper on a needle and “direct” it to spin in the direction you choose. Then, switch.
The results were spectacular when I did it.
Here’s how:
- Make a 3 x 3 inch square of light-weight paper.
- Fold it corner to corner. Unfold. Then, fold it opposite corner to corner. Unfold again. Now the paper makes a little, flat pyramid shape.
- Get a fine needle and figure out a way to secure it upright. (I put my in the top of a sunscreen bottle.)
- Balance the folded paper on the needle with the needle in the top of the pyramid.
- Place your hands above the pyramid in such a way that your hands are close to the paper but leaving just enough room for it to spin freely.
- Start with the pyramid still.
- Imagine (or direct) it to spin clockwise. Keep your focus on that idea until it does.
- Imagine (or direct) it to spin counterclockwise.
Let me know how it goes for you.
At first, I had to stop it myself between directions. Then, with practice, I could have it stop and go the other way.
Be careful not to have the paper in a draft or to move your hands while you are doing this.
NOW: imagine if you can do THIS with your thoughts… what else is possible?
Love and Success,
Katherine

Different Strategies for Different Times
The stories that are being shared during this season of presidential politics brought back to my mind a story my grandfather told many times.
It was during the Great Depression.
My grandfather was in college, studying engineering.
He had to leave school for a while to get a job to help support his family, but getting a job was not certain during that time.
He was determined to find a “good job,” but there were not many jobs – good or otherwise – to be found.
One morning, he saw an advertisement for a job at Fisher Body baling scrap metal. He decided to go for it.
As he was getting ready to go, his mother gave him advice: “tell them you are a college boy.”
Before the Depression, that would have meant something to prospective employers, but these were different times, and his father had a different perspective.
He pulled my grandfather aside and said: “look as big and strong and stupid as you can.” My grandfather decided to take his advice. So, he layered lots of sweaters under his coat to look as big and strong as he could, and off he went.
When he arrived, he found a line of eager applicants wrapping around the block.
At this point when he would tell the story, my grandfather would stand up and point to the molding around the floor, and he would demonstrate how he stood with his heels resting on the top of the molding, with his arms out to his side the way a muscle-bound man stands, and he’d pull a hat a little down over his face and put a toothpick in his mouth to demonstrate how he stood to stand out from the crowd.
He looked as big and strong and stupid as was possible for him.
So many people would apply for ONE job at that time, that you really had to stand out from the crowd, you couldn’t rely the usual job-finding strategies.
When the plant manager came out, he scanned down the LONG line of people and didn’t speak to a soul but pointed at a few, and said, “You and you and you – come with me.” And, that was it.
My grandfather got that much-needed job that way. He would tell of the grueling physical labor and how he used his engineering and physics mind to leverage his strength to get the job done.
Baling scrap metal. Pretty tough work.
The point of sharing this story is that times change, and the effective way to get a job or attract a client changes as well.
What worked a couple years ago so well for so many does not necessarily work now.
To be successful, you have to adapt to find the best way to be what people really want and need.
Though my grandfather’s college smarts helped him to be a great employee, what the employer wanted was a strapping strong man.
What does that mean today?
It means, the world is changing and evolving at an EXTREMELY rapid pace these days.
What worked a couple years ago CANNOT work today.
It is effectively a different world now.
What have you done lately to continue to evolve and adapt?
Are you following old “roadmaps to success” but are not finding the success you desire?
Law of Attraction Tip:
Follow the lead of my grandfather and have faith and confidence that YOU will get what you want, even when the odds may “seem” to be stacked against you. See yourself getting what you want, and follow inspired action to get there. (My grandfather didn’t sit at home dreaming about getting a job and tweaking his resume. He got out there where the job was and took action on the inspired suggestion of his father to land the job that got his family through the Depression and gave him great insight into the mind and concerns of the on-the-floor labor force which served him very well in his later career as a railroad executive and labor contract negotiator – but that’s a story for another time..)

Do You Want It Enough??
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about “wanting it enough.”
I’ve set some big goals for myself, and part of getting there is to be sure I want it enough.
Recently, I came across a small example of how “wanting it enough” makes all the difference.
I was working on the beach and took a break to take a dip in the water.
It was nice and warm under my beach umbrella, and the cool water was a shock. I almost didn’t go past my ankles and almost turned around and came back out. Then I realized what a perfect example of “wanting it enough” this was. If I did want it, I could just go for it.
The part of me already in the water felt good, but that line between being in the water and still being all warm from sitting in the sun was tricky.
When I focused on my feet and legs and ankles that were already in the water rather than the “line of shock,” it became easier.
I thought about my little reason to go into the water: to be refreshed, to have the experience of going in the water today.
If my son were in trouble in the water, I would not have noticed the water temperature as I plunged in (that would definitely have been “wanting it enough”), that reason TO go in the water would have outweighed just about any reason I can fathom.
If I knew that plunging in icy water would get me a dime, I probably would pass: not compelling enough.
If there were a pile of gold coins or a treasured heirloom down there, I probably would not let the water temperature stop me. (I might THINK about it, but I wouldn’t let it stop me.)
Different goals, desires, etc. motivate us differently.
If you are having trouble meeting a goal, think about your “WHY” – why you are going after the goal and it is truly compelling enough to get you past the discomfort of change (that “line of shock”).
Think about goals you’ve had that you haven’t met and compare them with the goals you HAVE met. Think about what motivated you in each.
P.S. The day I wrote about was a calm-sea day. The next day I was at the beach and the waves were big and beautiful and enticing. I went in just a bit and then WHOOSH, a big wave came. I had no choice but get wet THEN. I could dive through, try to ride it, or get tumbled, but “taking it slowly” was NOT an option – nor was staying dry. AND, I didn’t even notice the temperature, I was so thrilled by the moment.
I realized how this really furthers the metaphor of wanting it enough – because when you take baby steps toward your goal, you feel each little bit of change, but when you plunge into the big waves sometimes you are swimming before you notice.
Law of Attraction Tip:
Focus on what you want and how to get it, make it juicy and exciting and enticing and when possible “take the plunge” and just go for it in a way that does not allow you to think and turn back.
Love and Success,
Katherine
